The Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) is an independent, voluntary, and non-profit association of locally funded institutions of higher learning conducted their first sportsfest, ALCULYMPICS last week Jan 19-23, 2009 at the Marikina Sports Park and was hosted by the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina and the City Government of Marikina.
With the theme “Towards a Dynamic Culture of Sportsmanship”. ALCU hopes to strengthen the camaraderie among member-schools. Eighteen schools participated in the five-day event: City University of Malabon, Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Pamantasan ng Montalban, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Taguig, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, University of Makati, University of Caloocan, City University of Malabon, City College of Urdaneta, Gordon College, Lipa City Public College, Mandaue College, and Gat Andrés Bonifacio University, and PLMar.
The sports competition included Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Arnis, Chess, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Cheerdance Competition and Mr. & Ms ALCULYMPICS.
The Closing ceremonies were held last Friday January 23, 2009, included was the turn over ceremony to the next host school of the ALCULYMPICS three years from now, the University of Makati.
